Protecting Your Smile Day & Night

It's one thing to stick to your daily oral hygiene routine, but did you know it's just as important to protect your mouth? If you play sports, it's vital to save your mouth from potential injuries as a result of falling or getting hit with equipment.

For some, even just sleeping can cause oral health issues if you clench or grind or teeth. Even snoring can lead to poor oral health.

Our dentists in Hamilton offer customized dental appliances, such as mouth guards and snoring devices, to help protect your oral cavity and overall health.

Mouth Guards in Sports

Whether you're on the field, the ice, the court, or any other place you may be working up a sweat, there's always a chance you might injure yourself.

While store bought mouth guards may provide some level of protection, they are not custom fit to your mouth's specific needs.

Customization for Sports Guards

Given that all of us have different teeth structures, sports mouth guards need to be customized according to the patient's teeth.

A sports mouth guard is usually made of some form of rubber, and is customized to fit your mouth. Ideally, a sports mouth guard should be designed in a way that offers comfort and ease while playing a particular sport.

As one may also need to communicate with others players, a mouth guard shouldn't interfere too much with communication and expression.

Night Guards

For those who grind their teeth when they sleep, or clench their jaw, a night mouth guard can help prevent this from happening and provide some pain relief.

Snoring & Sleep Apnea Appliances

Sleep disorders can stop you from getting a good night's rest, which ultimately negatively impacts your overall health and well-being.

When you snore, your relaxed throat tissues cause the airway to restrict, which creates a snoring sound as oxygen forces its way through. If you have sleep apnea, your throat tissues over-relax and obstruct the airway, which forces your brain to wake you up to ensure that you breathe.

At EJC Dentistry, we are able to provide custom-fitted oral appliances that adjust the placement of the lower jaw and tongue muscles, which will open the airway. These should help improve your breathing and stop you from waking up throughout the night.
