Dental Implants to Restore Oral Function

If you're missing a tooth, there are a number of reasons why you should have it replaced other than just aesthetics.

Not only can missing teeth affect the way you speak and eat, but the gap left by a missing tooth can cause the rest of your teeth to shift, leading to more misalignment. This is why it is important to offer solutions, such as dental implants, to help restore your oral health.

A dental implant is a small titanium screw surgically inserted into the jaw bone. Over a period of a few months, the screw will bond with the natural bone, and once healed, will function as a root for a tooth replacement option such as a crown or denture.

Replace Missing Teeth to Protect Your Jaw Health

Your teeth help keep your jaw bone healthy. Chewing creates continual pressure that stimulates the jaw bone. If you've lost some of your teeth, this pressure will not occur and your jaw bone can begin to break down gradually. This can result in facial collapse or negatively impact your ability to eat and talk.

The Dental Implant Process

The dental implant process can take two or more appointments at your dentist's office after the initial consultation.

The procedure itself involves the dental implant, which is a titanium screw, and a tooth replacement option such as a crown or denture.

To begin, your dentist will surgically place the implant into your jaw bone below the gum tissue.

Once your jaw has healed, in approximately three to six months, you will come back in for your followup appointment. At this appointment, a tooth replacement option such as a dental crown, bridge or denture, is attached to the implant, creating the look and function of a natural tooth.
